Bergenin is sourced from saxifragaceae phytoliths cabbage entire grass and thick leaf crag cabbage myrsinaceae plant ardisia crispa root, stem, leaf. Bergenin is white crystai powder with characteristic odor. It tastes little bitterness.
Bergenin has analgesic, sedative, hypnotic and stability. Bergenin analgesic effect weaker than the pethidine, stronger than general antipyretic analgesics. No respiratory depression at therapeutic doses, bergenin does not cause gastrointestinal smooth muscle spasm. Bergenin is better effect on chronic persistent pain and visceral dull. But it is less eefective on sharp pain, advanced cancer pain. At the same time to produce analgesia, bergenin can cause sedation and hypnosis.
Bergenins mechanism of action remains to be elucidated, may block the function of the dopamine receptor in the brain by inhibiting the brainstem ascending reticular activating system. The treatment of the amount has non-addictive.
